The site measuring just under 5,000 m² is located on the western edge of the municipality of Rain (LU) and had been occupied by car dealerships until 2019. When AMAG relocated to Beromünster, the opportunity arose for the site to be developed for new homes.
Starting in autumn 2021, a total of 22 terraced houses ranging in size from 90 m² to 130 m² will be built on top of the existing garage. Thanks to the compact floor plans comprising 4.5 to 5.5 rooms, the houses can be bought at affordable prices, in a price segment that usually only includes single-level apartments. On the street side, the development is flanked by three commercial buildings, which shield the dwellings from noise.
Prospective residents will be able to choose from three development lines, and to customise their terraced house with a number of options. The most popular options include sun rooms and roof terraces.
The project is noted for its special attention to sustainability. Keeping the garage in use cuts down on the amount of excavation work required and greatly reduces the use of concrete. The new building above ground is constructed entirely of timber, which also allows for a climate-friendly realisation. The houses are heated using a central wood pellet-based system.
